Over the weekend, a mass shooting outside Los Angeles shocked the city of Monterey Park, leaving at least 11 dead and nine more wounded.
The attack occurred Saturday night in a dance studio where a Lunar New Year celebration was taking place. Police claimed that officers were dispatched to the location at approximately 10:00 p.m. PT after receiving a complaint of gunfire at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio. The eleventh victim, a woman in her seventies, died in a hospital on Monday, according to the Los Angeles County coroner. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna stated at a news conference on Sunday that the victims were five women and five men.
The names of the deceased were revealed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday. My Nhan, 65, Lilian Li, 63, Xiujuan Yu, 57, Muoi Ung, 67, Hong Jian, 62, Yu Kao, 72, Chia Yau, 76, Valentino Alvero, 68, Wen Yu, 64, Ming Ma, 72, and Diana Tom, 70, were recognised.
In the days following the shooting, a few further information about the deceased began to emerge.
Xiujuan Yu had three children, including identical twins.
Valentino Alvero was an American citizen of Filipino origin, according to a statement from the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles. Alvero was the grandfather of three grandchildren.
According to her niece, My Nhan enjoyed dancing and was looking forward to celebrating the Lunar New Year with her family the next day.
CBS Los Angeles said that according to witnesses, one of the victims, Ming Wei Ma, was the proprietor of the Star Ballroom Dance Studio.

They were named as My Nhan, age 65, Lilian Li, age 63, Xiujuan Yu, age 57, Muoi Ung, age 67, Hong Jian, age 62, Yu Kao, age 72, Chia Yau, age 76, Valentino Alvero, age 68, Wen Yu, age 64, Ming Ma, age 72, and Diana Tom, age 70.
In the days following the massacre, additional information about some of the victims began to surface.
Xiujuan Yu had twins among her three children.
The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles announced in a statement that Valentino Alvero was a U.S. citizen of Filipino ancestry. Three grandchildren were Alvero’s.
Her niece told CBS News that My Nhan enjoyed dancing and was looking forward to celebrating the Lunar New Year the following day with her family.
CBS Los Angeles stated that Ming Wei Ma, one of the deceased, was the owner of the Star Ballroom Dance Studio, according per witness accounts.

The suspected gunman was found dead Sunday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a white van that officials said he had used to leave the scene.
