On February 24, 2022, Ciera Breland, age 31, was last seen in John Creek, Georgia. She vanished while on a family visit with her husband and five-month-old child.
Background of Ciera Breland
On January 10, 1991, Nick and Kelly Locklair gave birth to their daughter Ciera Nichole Locklair in Georgia.
Ciera went to the University of Tennessee and Florida State University to study law. After she graduated, she went to law school and became an insurance defence lawyer in Atlanta, Georgia.
Ciera married Xavier Breland Jr., who was 37 years old, in 2020. They soon moved to Indiana, where Ciera gave birth to a boy by the end of the year.
Ciera lived with her husband and their 5-month-old baby in a house on Brookstone Park in Carmel, Indiana, when she went missing. She worked as an associate lawyer for the Indianapolis law firm Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani.
Details of Disappearance
On February 19, 2022, Ciera, Xavier, the baby, and the couple’s dog, Baker, a white Goldendoodle, travelled from Indiana to Georgia to see family.
The couple was driving a white 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan with the license plate RMB 5869 from Georgia. The car was surrounded by a frame that said “Florida State University Law School.”
The family stayed at Ciera’s parents’ house in Cleveland, Georgia, for the first two days. Then they went to Johns Creek, about an hour away, to see Xavier’s mother, who lived in a house on Highgate Manor Court.
At 11:17 p.m. on February 21, 2022, Ciera sent her dad a text message saying she would be back at their house the next morning.
Ciera didn’t go to her dad’s house on February 22, and when he called her, she said she was a little sick.
That day, Ciera Breland stopped answering and hasn’t been heard from since. The couple was going to go back to Indiana the next day.
When Ciera Breland didn’t show up on February 26, 2022, Xavier Breland Jr. filed a report with the Carmel Police Department in Indiana.
Investigation of Case
Xavier Breland Jr. told police at first that Ciera Breland had gone missing in Carmel, Indiana, after the couple got back from their trip to Georgia.
Around 10:00 p.m. on February 25, 2022, Ciera Breland walked from the couple’s home on Brookstone Park to a nearby store, possibly a CVS. The temperature that night was around 20°F, but she was wearing a tank top.
That night, Ciera Breland never went home, and there was no surveillance video of her going into the store. She left without taking her phone, credit cards, or ID with her.
Authorities found out that the last time Ciera Breland was seen was on February 24, 2022. At 7:17 that night, she was last seen at the house of her mother-in-law on Highgate Manor Court in Johns Creek, Georgia.
On March 1, 2022, Xavier Breland Jr. was arrested on unrelated charges of aggravated stalking, breaking an order of protection for domestic violence, and making harassing phone calls to his ex-wife.
On March 2, 2022, 37-year-old Xavier Breland Jr. was named as a person of interest in the disappearance of Ciera Breland, but he was not charged with a crime.
Her family says that after she moved to Indiana, Ciera was unhappy and afraid of her husband. She said she was afraid for her own safety and planned to leave him and go back to Georgia with her son.
Whereabouts
Ciera Breland is thought to have been taken by someone else, and the case is still open and being looked into.
The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to where Ciera Breland is.
