James Larabee, who is 53 years old, was last seen on September 28, 2013 in Davis, Oklahoma. He disappeared after telling his sister he was going on a trip to Northwest Oklahoma.
Background
James Richard Larabee was raised in the small Oklahoma town of Davis. He is divorced and has five children.
Larabee was living in Denton, Texas, when he went missing. He was close to his sister, who lived a few hours away. They talked on the phone often.
Three of his younger kids lived with their mother, while the two older ones lived on their own.
Disappearance of James Larabee
James Larabee was last seen in Davis, Oklahoma, on September 28, 2013. He was at his class reunion. Every year, his high school held an alumni banquet, and Larabee would often go back to his hometown to see old friends.
On October 3, 2013, Larabee sent a text message to his sister saying he was going on a trip to Northwest Oklahoma and would be back in nine days. This was the last time he talked to his family. His sister sent him a text message back, but he didn’t answer.
After that day, James Larabee never talked to his family again and was never seen or heard from again. People thought the trip was strange because his mother had Stage 4 cancer at the time, and she died a few days after the trip.
Due to a misunderstanding with Larabee’s grown children, his sister filed a late missing person’s report with the Davis Police Department in 2018.
His sister thought that Larabee’s grown children had reported him missing in 2013, but when she found out that they hadn’t, she made a report herself.
Investigation
A few weeks before his disappearance, James Larabee quit his job and cashed out his 401(k). He supposedly told a friend that he was going to “disappear” or “go into the woods and kill himself.”
In Georgia in 2015, someone who was not Larabee sold his car, a 2007 Honda Civic, on Craigslist. His Texas driver’s licence was not renewed after it ran out in 2016.
The owner of the car told the police that he bought it from a person in Georgia. However, the person who sold the car was not Larabee, the police say.
Larabee’s sister hired a private investigator because she was frustrated by the lack of progress in her brother’s case. The investigator told her that James’ car had been sold through TitleMax to a woman in Georgia in July of 2014. Nobody knows if this person is the same one who sold the car in 2015.
Whereabouts
Police found no evidence, means, or motive for foul play in James Larabee’s disappearance.
The circumstances of James Larabee’s disappearance remain unclear and his case is currently classified as missing. His case remains unsolved.
