36-year-old Erica Johnson was last seen in Cape Coral, Florida on July 5, 2022. She disappeared after boarding a bus en route to Tampa.

Background

Erica Ann Johnson arrived on the scene on September 14, 1985. She is a divorced mother of two children.

Johnson was renting a room near 621 Cape Coral Parkway East in Cape Coral, Florida at the time of her disappearance. In Fort Myers Beach, she worked as a housekeeper at the Best Western Plus Beach Resort.

Johnson was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and was a frequent visitor to St. Peters and St. Charles.

Disappearance

Erica Johnson left work at 4:30 p.m. on July 5, 2022, and was dropped off by a coworker at a bus stop near the Bell Shop Towers shopping center in Fort Myers, Florida.

Johnson boarded a bus that afternoon and was later caught on camera exiting at the Cape Coral Transit Center bus station at 5:37 p.m.

Johnson texted her ex-husband at 7:00 a.m. on June 6, 2022, saying she had to cancel plans to see their two children because she had to work.

Johnson was last seen in the early morning hours of July 8, 2022, at the Cape Coral Transit Center bus stop. Johnson was carrying bags, a bunny cage, and a traveling pillow when she boarded a bus at 5:21 a.m., according to surveillance footage.

Johnson was last seen in Fort Myers later that morning, boarding a Greyhound bus bound for Tampa. Erica Ann Johnson has yet to be found.

When her family was unable to contact her, they filed a missing person’s report with the Cape Coral Police Department on July 14, 2022.

Investigation

On July 8, detectives were able to track Johnson to a Greyhound bus stop in Tampa, but it is unclear where she went from there. All calls to her phone went to voice mail.

In Erica’s rented room, authorities discovered a small couch, a clothing bin, a blue bicycle, and a backpack. A week before her disappearance, she was seen by neighbors carrying a black suitcase.

Johnson rarely used her cell phone and had no bank account or social media accounts. She didn’t own a car and had to rely on public transportation to get to and from her job in Fort Myers.

Whereabouts

The investigation into Erica Johnson’s disappearance is still ongoing. Following further investigation, authorities upgraded her status to missing and endangered adult.
