Dylan’s boots were discovered on May 30, 2022, the day he was reported missing, about 100 yards from where his grain truck was parked (about 5 miles west of the farm), looking as if they had been carelessly thrown out.
The boots appeared to have a drop of blood on them, according to the detectives, who informed Dylan’s mother that they would be sent for testing. On June 6, they were delivered to the laboratory.
The call Dylan made to his grandmother on the morning of May 28, 2022, and the fact that it was made close to his farm were both confirmed by law enforcement as the last activities on Dylan’s cell phone. The farm was at or within 15 miles of his phone’s last ping, which occurred at 3:41 that afternoon.
The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Horse Posse, the Weber County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, the Elko County Sheriff’s Office, the Utah Department of Public Safety Aero Bureau, Utah Search Dogs, and the FBI have all contributed to the search for Dylan.
According to the Official Find Dylan Rounds Facebook page, Dylan’s maroon Ford 4×4 4-door pickup was found parked at the farm, freshly pressured washed. The transfer case was discovered to have been set to 4X4 mode, which Dylan knew was not functional, and the seat was too far forward for him to have been able to drive.
His credit card and cellphone have not been used since he vanished. His personal belongings were all left behind, and none of the farm’s vehicles were missing. His wallet and cellphone have not been found, though.
The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office declared the Dylan search was being handled as a criminal investigation and a missing person’s case on June 16, 2022.
Authorities report that volunteer teams have searched for more than 300 hours and travelled more than 3,000 miles, while detectives have spent 650 hours looking into the case so far.
The primary law enforcement agency in Dylan’s case is the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office, but the FBI has confirmed that they are now assisting with the investigation.
