Detectives from the Special Victims Investigation Division are asking for anyone who believes that they may have been a victim of Germany to call 240-773-5400. The investigation is ongoing.

Police say a 30-year-old man tried to kidnap a child at a school bus stop, but a group of children came to the defense of one of their classmates and stopped the kidnapping.

The incident happened early Monday morning in Gaithersburg, Maryland, about 20 miles north of Washington, D.C. Several students were waiting for their school bus at a bus stop when 30-year-old Jamaal Germany allegedly tried to kidnap one of them.

“The victim said that they were waiting at the bus stop in the 17600 block of Towne Crest Dr. at about 7:20 a.m. when the suspect allegedly grabbed the child and pulled them toward an apartment building,” the Montgomery County Police Department said in a statement after the incident. “A number of students waiting at the bus stop tried to help, but the victim was able to get away.”

Authorities are still looking into the attempted kidnapping, so they don’t know what the suspect’s reasons were.

Authorities say that when the school bus arrived, all of the students were there and got on before the incident was reported to school staff. About 30 minutes after the attempted kidnapping was reported, a community engagement officer also went to the children’s school.

The Montgomery County Police department said, “During the investigation, detectives found that Germany was the suspect.” “He was arrested and taken to the Central Processing Unit for Montgomery County. At this time, there is no information about bonds.”
