Kyla Porter, 19 years old, was last seen in Holiday, Florida on February 15, 2008. She vanished after informing her sister that she was at a party and would be home within an hour.
Background of Kyla Porter
Kyla Porter was born on October 27, 1988 to mother Teresa Ahrens.
Kyla lived with her elder sister, Lynn Porter, at a house on Blossom Lake Drive in Holiday, Florida, a tiny town north of Clearwater, at the time of her abduction. She had recently relocated from Georgia to live with her family after her fiance was arrested for drug possession.
Kyla’s family reports that she had previously disappeared for a few days at a time, but always communicated with them. They worry that she may have been the victim of foul play, especially given that she left her stuff at home.
Disappearance of Disappearance
Kyla Porter called her older sister, with whom she was living at the time, around 10:30 p.m. on February 15, 2008, to inform her that she was at a party and would be home within an hour. Unknown is her location at the time of the call.
Kyla never returned to her residence and has not been heard from since.
After not hearing from Kyla for two weeks, her mother reported her missing to the police. Her mother claims that the police did not take her seriously because Kyla had previously fled and ordered her to wait another week before filing a case.
Investigation
Kyla Porter left her possessions, including her pocketbook, clothing, and identity, at home.
Kyla’s mother called a friend Kyla claimed to be with at the party, but the friend said she hadn’t seen Kyla in weeks and hung up after becoming annoyed.
The phone Kyla used to call her sister could not be tracked because it was a prepaid phone that could only hold 10 numbers. By the time Kyla’s disappearance was reported, the material had been removed.
Investigators interviewed Kyla’s family, acquaintances, and last-known associates but found no traces of her location.
This has never been confirmed, however there have been reports that the party Kyla attended the night she vanished was held on Moon Lake, a swamp some 15 miles from her house.
Kyla’s case has no recognized suspects or persons of interest.
Whereabouts
The location of Kyla Porter, as well as the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, remains unknown.
Her case is classified as endangered missing and remains unsolved.
