Maureen Kelly, 19 years old, was last seen on June 9th, 2013 in the Canyon Creek Campground of Washington’s Gifford Pinchot National Forest. She was last seen entering a wooded area while carrying only a fanny pack, after which she vanished without a trace.
Background of Maureen Kelly
Maureen Leianuhea Kelly was born to mother Mapuana Kelly on September 26, 1993. She has two siblings.
Maureen was raised in Vancouver, Washington, where she attended Lewis and Clark and Hudson’s Bay high schools.
Disappearance’s Details
Maureen camped with a group of friends in Canyon Creek Campground in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest on June 9, 2013.
Maureen disrobed around 5:00 p.m. and informed her pals that she was going on a “spiritual quest.” She left the tent barefoot and wandered off into the woods with only a fanny pack containing a knife, compass, and matches.
Although she did not specify a return time, her pals were counting on her to go back to them within a few hours. Since that fateful night, no one has seen or heard from Maureen again.
When she still hadn’t returned by midnight on June 10, 2013, her friends reported her missing to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office out of concern.
Investigation of Case
Volunteers from land-based rescue organizations performed a thorough search of the Canyon Creek region on the day she was reported missing. Helicopters were unable to look for evidence of Maureen Leianuhea Kelly because to the heavy cloud cover.
A set of bare footprints, roughly the size of Maureen’s, was discovered by rescuers. Her traces led searchers to conclude that she had crossed Canyon Creek and were heading north toward the Forest Service 54 road before coming to a stop on the paved road. No scent was found by K-9 units.
During the night she disappeared, the temperature dropped from the mid-70s to the mid-40s, and there was a light drizzle. The weather was cold enough to cause hypothermia in an adult, and Maureen wasn’t dressed for it.
Whereabouts
The investigation into Maureen Kelly’s disappearance yielded no leads suggesting foul activity on the part of the perpetrator(s). It is presumed that she died of exposure in the wilderness the night she vanished, even though her corpse has never been located.
The circumstances of Maureen Kelly’s disappearance remain unclear and her case is currently classified as missing. Her case remains unsolved.
