Ghislaine Maxwell, who is in prison for 20 years for her part in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking ring, says that Epstein was killed while he was in jail. In an interview with a British TV station that aired on Monday, Maxwell, the daughter of the late British media mogul Robert Maxwell, said that she didn’t think Epstein killed himself, which is what the official autopsy report said.
Epstein died in a New York jail in August 2019. He was accused of selling underage girls for sex. Even though suicide was the official cause of Epstein’s death, there have been many rumours and theories about what really happened.
Maxwell said, “I think that he was killed.” In 2019, Epstein’s brother hired a forensic pathologist who said there was evidence that Epstein had been murdered. The forensic pathologist said that Epstein’s multiple neck fractures were “very unusual for suicide.”
Even so, after looking into Epstein’s death and how he was able to hang himself in New York’s Metropolitan Correctional Center for years, the US Department of Justice has not shown any signs of wrongdoing.
In 2019, two prison guards who had admitted to making up records about the night Epstein died were charged with not keeping an eye on him. But at the end of 2021, federal prosecutors dropped the charges because the two people had done the community service they had agreed to do.
Maxwell, who is currently appealing her 2021 conviction for sex trafficking with minors, said in the interview that she wishes she had never met Epstein. She said that when they met in the late 1990s and started dating, she didn’t know how “awful” he was.
During Maxwell’s high-profile trial in New York, US prosecutors were able to prove that she was “the key” to Epstein’s plan to get young girls to give him massages so that he could sexually abuse them.
In an interview that aired on Sunday, Maxwell also said that a picture from the early 2000s of Prince Andrew with his arm around one of Epstein’s accusers, Virginia Giuffre, was not real. Giuffre says that Epstein and Maxwell sold her as a sexual slave to the prince, who is the younger brother of King Charles III. She sued the prince in a US court for sexual assault, saying that they had done sexual things together when she was a child.
The lawsuit was settled last year, so the prince didn’t have to go to court. Andrew has said that he is not guilty, and he has not been charged with a crime. The picture, which is said to have been taken in London in 2001, is seen as very important evidence against the prince.
