Al Saflieni Hypogeum in Malta is the only Ancient underground temple in the world that holds a unique Mystery: it resonates at a frequency that has an unusual effect on the brain.

One of the best preserved examples of Maltese temple building culture is the underground Hypogeum structure, which dates back almost 5,000 years. However, the peculiar acoustic characteristics discovered in its underground spaces surprised scientists more than any other characteristic.

The three levels of the Hypogeum are divided into a number of elliptical chambers that can be reached via various corridors. The domed vaults in the main rooms and the intricate network of false compartments set them apart.

According to researchers, the Hypogeum was once a sanctuary, possibly housing an oracle. The Oracle Chamber was thus given its name after a special chamber inside the building that was carved out of solid limestone and displayed amazing acoustic qualities.

The word spoken in the Oracle Chamber is heard throughout the entire building and is magnified one hundred times. Some claim that this gives the impression of being inside a huge bell. At certain altitudes, the listener experiences the same degree of vibration in his bones and tissues as he does in his ears.

The structure’s remarkable acoustic characteristics have already been investigated. A 110 Hz resonance frequency was discovered in the Oracle Chamber by Maltese composer Ruben Zara and an Italian research team. This resonance frequency matches observations made in numerous other Neolithic chambers around the world, including Newgrange in Ireland.

According to Princeton University researcher Robert Jahn, the size of the room or the quality of the stone affects how high the echo rises.

But the question still stands: Was this outcome deliberate? Was it really intended for the Hypogeum to create it? Maybe there was something that our ancestors knew that we are only now rediscovering?.

Paolo Debertolis and Niccol Bisconti of the Universities of Trieste and Siena, respectively, have put forth the theory that the room was designed to produce acoustics that have an impact on people’s psyches, possibly to enhance mystical experiences during rituals. In academic circles, there is a lot of support for this concept.

In a 2008 study, Ian Cook of the University of California, Los Angeles, and his associates used EEG to monitor the brain activity of several volunteers while varying different resonant frequencies.

They discovered that at 110/111 Hz, language centers’ brain activity is significantly reduced, allowing other processes to take center stage.

This kind of brain activity is connected to a hypnotic state of drowsiness, including vivid mental images and auditory hallucinations, claims Paul Devereaux, a professor of archeoacoustics at Cambridge. This kind of shift most likely doesn’t happen at other frequencies.

Accordingly, those who participated in ritual singing, such as in the Hypogeum room, may have been subjected to vibrations that had an impact on their brain activity. Scientists studying biological behavior claim that this effect activates a region linked to mood, empathy, and social behavior.

The camera was tested to see how it responded to different voices and simple musical instruments that may have been present during the Hypogeum’s use (4000-2500 BC) using microphones installed in the Oracle’s chamber and digital recorders. e.).

The study’s findings revealed that two frequencies of structure resonance can be stimulated by the male voice (114 Hz and 68-70 Hz). The friction drum produces low resonance, while the horn and shell produce none at all.

A male voice singing “oh-oh-oh-oh” elicited a similar response as did the shamanic drum, which was made of natural leather and produced a strong resonant stimulation at a frequency of 114 Hz (while the female voice did not).

There are still questions despite research into the peculiar characteristics of the Oracle Chamber. But the mysteries of this ancient and enigmatic location are beginning to be revealed by scientists.
