Police in Indiana reported that a 1-year-old boy was fatally shot in a flat by his 5-year-old sibling.

Around 3 p.m. local time on Tuesday, the Lafayette Police Department received a report of a shooting at a flat building.

Police said the responding officers arrived at the house and discovered the 1-year-old dead from a gunshot wound.

The child was shot by his five-year-old sibling, who was able to access a weapon in the apartment, investigators with the Lafayette Police Department found, according to a statement.

Police stated that a handgun was used.

According to Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello, an autopsy was carried out on Wednesday, and the initial cause of death was determined to be a single gunshot wound.

Isiah Johnson, 16 months old, was the victim, according to the coroner.

There are currently no new developments in the investigation, according to the police.

Lafayette Capt. Brian Phillips told ABC News on Wednesday that “our department is still actively looking into this.”

About 60 miles to the northwest of Indianapolis is Lafayette.
